Eline Cantilever Chair
With a seemingly impossible slim silhouette and lightness, the task chair Eline gives a comfortable seating for an active and long use.

A harmonic balancing act between technique and form
Despite the fact that materials and details in the construction have been reduced to an absolute minimum, and all other parameters taken to its limits, a pleasant flex in the form-pressed seating shell has been achieved. Eline constitutes a harmonic balancing act between technique and form.

An expressive design object
The series is available with several different bases and a wide range of colours, always with an architectural form that makes it a given and expressive design object.
The designer on the interplay between ergonomics, aesthetics and function
– We wanted to create the thinnest and lightest work chair possible, free from a lot of levers and controls, yet without compromising comfort. To make the seat shell thin and flexible without the risk of breaking, we constructed a cradle. It works as a buffer against the leg frame, which fixates the seating shell just enough to give a pleasant flex in both the back and seat.
The slightest change in material dimensions or component angles affects the balance, and at the same time the seat angle and armrest height must of course be correct for both ergonomics and aesthetic expression. Together with Edsbyn, it feels like we’ve really pushed this concept to the limit of what is technically possible. This chair looked different when we started, but as we gradually reduced material it took on another expression.
In other words, it’s not a chair you simply sketch out – its design has emerged through many digital and physical tests of strength. Airplanes are shaped by the conditions of aerodynamics, yet can still be very beautiful. Furniture too has a tradition of becoming beautiful as a result of their technical prerequisites – and in this case, one can truly say that function creates form in the very best way. /Claesson Koivisto Rune
